Week 13: Class Discussion Q1

There are so many organizations in every town. Some are local organizations and some are large chain organizations. I do believe that they are all tied to the environment because they all have something to offer for different people. If you talk about a local farmers market, they are providing people fresh local grown product and we are helping to support our local community but prices may be higher. But on the other hand you have chain grocery stores who offer the same type of product but it is from where ever they can get it at a good price to give others a lower price on it. Both in both situations these organizations have something to offer the community.
Any college or University play a big role in the community because they are not only offering a place to educate people but it brings people from other communities into that town and helps local businesses grow and brings in revenue. Sierra College and Sac State are both considered “commuter” colleges and people from other cities spend most of their day on or around campus in that area and it really does help the community but it also can have some negative aspects such as congested traffic, Loitering, college parties, ect and the community may look down on that. I do think the schools have a small obligation to to make sure students are being respectful of the community and keep things in order, yet at the same time people need to take responsibility for their own actions and by this point in life you should no right from wrong.

  1. I like that you bring out some valid points here. It reminded me about my day. When I make my schedule for the day I try to make it so I save on driving. I try to get classes back to back and only twice a week. Make it a full day on campus to avoid extra driving. I rather have 2 full day on campus and get everything done rather than 4 or 5 days and only have one class a day. At the end people who chose that route end up spending more time in the car and on gas than in school. Plus with how bad the parking is I don't even want to think about coming to campus 4 days a week. Of course there are things like work that may not let someone take the route I do, but I'm thankful that I can do that.

  2. I agree with you 100%. I never really thought of answering this question with our local and then large scale businesses. Even though they do both make a huge impact in our town locally. Whether it's competing prices, better/worse product and location. School wise I think it's based on people and how they make their decisions. It's their fault they picked something close to a college, therefore there will be consequences, but who knows, they could have been forced to move there. I like what LA said in their comment, I always try to get 2 full days of classes and avoid extra driving. I think everyone should do that, who knows, it might make travel time and traffic a little easier to get there.
